Releases section on our GitHub is the best place to get fresh releases of binaries and check out the source code.
There are multiple versions of our releases available below. Skylake: For Intel Skylake onwards and AMD Ryzen CPUs. Typically those PCs manufactured after 2015. Legacy (x86-64-v2): For Intel Broadwell, Haswell and older CPUs, as well as AMD's equivalents. Designed for the CPU architecture generally found in systems produced between 2009 and 2015. Also supports VM environments that do not expose the Skylake onwards instructions.
Get Started with Advanced CLI Installation
We will download two files for your respective operating system.
Subspace-Node
- This is the executable that actually makes the connection with the Subspace NetworkSubspace-Farmer
- This is the executable that will actually farm for rewards on your allocated storage plots.
Starting with the February 19th release, we've enhanced plotting performance by increasing internal concurrency. This enhancement leads to improved CPU utilization and increased RAM usage. If you prefer to revert your farmer to its previous behavior, you can use the flag --record-encoding-concurrency 1

Step 3: Start Advanced CLI Farmer
- We will then open another terminal, change to the downloads directory as we did before, then start the farmer node with the following command:

When attempting to start the node, you may be prompted: Click on cancel
instead of moving it to trash.
To allow execution, go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General

Linux Filesystem Recommendations:
SWAP: A swap file is necessary only if your system has a low amount of RAM.
RAID: Avoid redundancy setups (RAID1/5/6, RAIDZ) for filesystems with plots. The subspace farmer uses checksums for data integrity and can often recover corrupted blocks. Use
scrub
for maintenance. RAID0 accomplishes little more than to put more of your plots at risk in case of a drive failure.ext4: The recommended formatting command for drives dedicated solely to subspace is
sudo mkfs.ext4 -m 0 -T largefile4 /path/to/dev
, as it maximizes usable space and the plot resizing functionality operates flawlessly. Previously recommended striping and chunk size parameters have not demonstrated any appreciable benefit or harm.XFS: No longer recommended as attempting to resize the plot (larger or smaller) with the drive nearly full (98%+) will render the plot unfarmable unless sufficient extra space can be freed up by means other than trying to shrink the plot (try deleting piece_cache.bin if this happens to you). Full XFS disk utilization can only be achieved during the plot's initial creation, and will still yield less usable space than the ext4 recommendation above.
CoW Filesystems: Avoid using Copy-on-Write (CoW) file systems (like ReFS, BTRFS, ZFS, bcachefs, HAMMER) with Subspace. If using BTRFS, disable CoW using
sudo chattr +C path/to/data/dir
before starting Subspace. This applies only to newly created files. Alternatively, use a non-CoW filesystem like ext4 as recommended above. :::
File Descriptor Limit: Linux has a hard limit of 100k file descriptors. Exceeding this may cause errors. Substrate has a default limit of 10k. Check and adjust the limit at
/proc/sys/fs/file-max

Create a New User for Subspace:
Running a node as a root user carries significant risks for the system. It is recommended to create a separate user for this purpose.

Upgrade
To upgrade a node and farmer, first, stop running services:
sudo systemctl stop subspace-{node,farmer}
After using the commands from the beginning of the manual, download the executable files of the new release. And if you installed under a regular user, you will need to switch to that user beforehand.
Now you can start the services:
sudo systemctl start subspace-{node,farmer}
Build from source (Linux)

You'll have to have Rust toolchain installed as well as LLVM, Clang and CMake in addition to usual developer tooling (Ubuntu example):
sudo apt-get install llvm clang cmake
The build with LLVM + Clang 16 ends with UnknownOpcode(192)

(replace occurrences with the snapshot you want to build):
